He began his karate training at the age of 11 and later studied under Master Funakoshi, the founder of Shotokan karate. In 1953, Oyama opened his first dojo in Tokyo. It has taught me so much and has given me some amazing experiences. I am proud to be a part of the Kyokushin community, and I will always cherish the memories that I have made.
